Elizabeth McLanahan, LCSW
“When words are both true and kind they can change the world.”
— Buddha
Elizabeth uses Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, Interpersonal, Narrative and Motivational Interviewing styles of therapy. She works with adolescents and adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationships, trauma, identity and grief. She has experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, motivation, self-esteem, confidence and coping with life changes.
Elizabeth’s counseling style is relaxed. She has been described as supportive, caring, and compassionate, with a good sense of humor. She believes that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming your challenges. She focuses on identifying your strengths and helping you maximize them to overcome your obstacles. She feels her job is to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. In your first session together, you will typically begin with brief introductions and what brought you to seek assistance. This gives Elizabeth a sense of who you are and your motivation for change. This will assist her in creating a plan for you to work through together in follow-up sessions.
Elizabeth has worked as a Military Family Life Counselor helping military members, families and those affected by military lifestyle. She has also helped to develop an addiction free pain management program while working with addiction. A large portion of Elizabeth’s clients are young adults and/or professionals eager to improve areas in their lives when they find themselves overwhelmed and anxious about change.
